Is a boudoir photo session worth it? This is often what women and couples ask themselves when entertaining the thought. In my opinion, it would depend on an individual or a couple’s goals and preferences. Here are some factors to consider:
Reasons why a boudoir photo session might be worth it:
Boudoir photos can be a powerful way to celebrate your body and rediscover your sensuality. The experience of being pampered and photographed during a boudoir photoshoot can be empowering, and seeing the final output can help you see the beauty that others do and also appreciate yourself in a new light.
A boudoir photo session and the final images can be a unique and intimate gift for yourself or your partner. They can be a way to spice up your relationship or simply express your love and appreciation. Having a couples boudoir photo session might just be what might bring back the fire in a relationship.
Thinking of a beautiful way to commemorate a milestone, such as your wedding, birthday, weight loss journey, or even a divorce or marriage annulment? A boudoir photo session should be on top of your list. I even have a name for the photoshoot of those who just became single again, I call it a revenge boudoir photo session.
A boudoir shoot can be a fun way to push yourself outside your comfort zone. Trying something new and challenging can be a rewarding experience, even if it’s a little nerve-wracking. Sometimes I would get inquiries from women who want to experience a boudoir photoshoot but just can’t take that leap. Yes, that is right, it is a leap, not a step, but those who did found it very rewarding.
Reasons why it might not be worth it:
There is this impression that boudoir photography sessions can be expensive, including the photographer’s fee, hair and makeup, lingerie, and prints or albums. I think my rates are very competitive or even lower than most. I try to keep it that way so more women or couples get to experience a boudoir photo session and have great photos as keepsakes.
If you’re not comfortable with the idea of being photographed in lingerie or revealing clothing, then you might think a boudoir shoot might not be the best choice for you. My response to that is lingerie or revealing clothing are not the only choices. Loose clothing such as men’s button-down shirts and boxer shorts works.
It’s important to remember that boudoir photography is about celebrating your unique beauty, not about achieving unrealistic standards. If you’re prone to feeling pressure to look perfect, then a boudoir shoot might not be the best way to boost your self-esteem. I would say, try it before you knock it. Would you rather have that lingering question of what if, than taking a chance of going for a boudoir photo session to boost your self-confidence?
Consider who you plan to share the photos with and how you might feel about them being seen by others. This is one of the major concerns I get from people inquiring about my service. I would assure them that their photos are private and it would be up to them if they decide to share their photos or let me use them in my portfolio or social media posts.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to have a boudoir photo session is a personal one. There’s no right or wrong answer, and it’s important to do what feels right for you. If you’re considering it, do your research, talk to friends who have had boudoir photos taken, and choose a photographer who makes you feel comfortable and respected.
